RSE
During this module we covered many different aspects in relation to sexual education. We covered topics such as STI's and their negative effects on your healthy. We also covered topics such as consent and personal hygiene. We haven’t finished the module yet so we haven’t decided what our project is going to be about.
Forensics/CSI
This was by far one of the most interesting modules we took part in this year. We looked at some of the many clues that indicate what type of crime had been committed and we also learn how to observe and know what’s important in a crime scene. These included finger prints, tire marks, blood at the scene, hair, shoe marks, and many more. Throughout this module we are filling out a booklet on everything we had learnt during the module. I am enjoying forensics but Ms Aylmer left so I don’t know if we are keeping it.
Politics
During this module we focused on movies and famous stars in the USA during the 1950s and 1960s. We covered topics from racism, to pop and teen culture. The topic I enjoyed learning about the most was racism because it is interesting to see how times have changed and how people have developed the way they think. I also enjoyed discussing and learning more about Irish culture because I think it’s something very important and people should never forget their origins. I enjoyed talking about Rock and Roll too. This was a new movement where self expression became more popular. This module was very similar to history and as I’mnot doing history this year it was nice to still get a taste of culture. We haven’t finished our module yet so we don’t have a project assigned at the moment.
Pottery
Pottery was another one of my favorite modules, that’s why I decided to do it for my gaisce too . Mr. O'Connor was an amazing teacher and he taught us many new skills. I have never worked with clay before so this was all very new to me, we had to do a few general pieces but normally we were allowed to ame whatever we wanted to. That was something that made that everyone enjoyed this module. He was always willing to help us when we had any kind of problem. Throughout this module I made a few pieces, an elephant, pinch pot, my name... This module exposed me to a whole new side of art. I have never excelled at the painting/ drawing aspect of art, but I really enjoyed learning the techniques of pottery, and I don’t think I am as bad as I thought I would be.
Health and safety
This was another very helpful and useful module. Our teacher was Mr O’Connor and he was the ideal person to teach this subject as he’s been working in the school for a long time and knows the different rules. We learnt about the most dangerous and the safest places in our home and at school. We learnt about all of the risks in our daily environment and how to avoid them in order to stay safe. As well as this we learnt about different machines such as forklifts that help us to lift heavy objects, limiting possible injury. This was an informative module and I realized how careful we must be with our bodies when lifting heavy objects. This new information will help me in my daily life.
Rembrandt (Art appreciation project)
For art appreciation our project consisted on an artist we were interested in. As I explained in my project I chose Rembrandt because when I went to Amsterdam a couple of years ago I was fascinated by his works. I learnt a lot from this module and it improved my knowledge about art and famous buildings.

One year abroad
Should parents encourage their children to study one year abroad?
Is studying one year abroad good for students?
As a student I think that it’s s an amazing opportunity that a huge amount of pupils choose everyday but of course there are loads of different opinions. Teenagers are the future of society and the encouragement to help them make a decision as huge as this one could be the best experience of their lives. People are scared of going one year away and parents are frightened of letting them go, i would say that the fact that not everybody is going away are you parents, i understand that you are sacred that you still see your children as babies, but they aren’t those kids anymore.
We need to understand that this chance is not just for rich people, there are scholarships and it’s demonstrated that On average, Erasmus students were more likely to get a job after studying abroad than 70% of all students. Statistics show that students that are brave enough to go away for a year have better job opportunities and they are normally more prepared for them.
Other interesting findings were that more than 1 in 3 Erasmus students who took a job placement abroad were hired or offered a position by their host company, and 1 in 10 started their own company. On top of this, the unemployment rate of Erasmus students five years after graduation is 23% lower than the norm.
Apart from statistics that have proved that studying abroad gives students new opportunities it also gives them an experience that they will never forget. Isn’t that what life is about?
Living abroad can change a person’s life and his way of thinking. They live in another country for a scholar year, they learn and get involved in different traditions and cultures, they meet new people that some of them will become long life friends. For all of this reasons someone should want to go on an Erasmus or a year in a foreign country just to try something different.
Even further this year will give your sons and daughters freedom and independence, they will learn the real meaning of maturity and the responsabilities that it implies. Ghandi said once live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever, I found this quote very inspiring specially for young people because it can open their eyes and show them that there is another life out there that they might not know. We need to teach the new generation of teenagers that changes don’t have to be necessarily bad.
When we make a decision as important as this is important to have the support of he parents so that’s when you play a fundamental role on your child. We need to keep in mind that the first few weeks will be very difficult but as one of my favorite quotes say the sun always comes up after the storm. It could be difficult to have this mentality at that moment but you just need extra time.
In a study did by a pschycology teacher shows that Decision making is one of the most important skills your children need to develop to become healthy and mature adults. Decision making is crucial because the decisions your children make dictate the path that their lives take.
Review
Public speaking was my third rotation of modules, I quite enjoyed it and it gave me the opportunity to improve my speaking in public. I couldn’t attend to all the classes because we during January we were practicing for the musical but definitely it’s a module that gives a lot to students. It makes them more confident with their speeches and at the same time it will make them more mature.
To do my speech I followed all the advices that Mr Wall told us in class, use repetitions, quotes from important people, rethorical questions... It took me a week to finish my speech and thanks to the snow I had extra time to do it.
Before my speech I was very nervous because I was the first student doing it in my form, but when I was talking time went so quickly and the lady there was lovely and helpful. That made a huge difference. As my speech was about studying abroad it was easy for me to answer the question “why did you choose this topic?” . Even though the lady told me it was a great speech I didn’t feel the same way, but now I see that I was wrong because I got 86%.

Leadership
I really enjoyed this module but because of the musical I didn’t have much time to attend to the classes. The first few classes I remembered that we watched Moneyball while we were writing down the leadership skills that Brad Pitt (main role) was developing throughout the movie.
Nutrition and Dietetics
I really enjoyed this module because everything that is related with the human being I found it very interesting. We talked about drugs in sports, about how to maintain a healthy lifestyle... I enjoyed it but more importantly I learned from it. I think the good thing about this module, well of every module is that they are more practical than Theo rica la which means that is more fun for students.
Careers
Careers was one of my first modules. I quite enjoyed it and it gave a perception of how Irish colleges work. As I explained in my project Spain works in a different way but both of these countries do some things in the same way. I would have preferred to have done more practical stuff as I think we spent too much time searching for courses that could interest us, but at the end of the day we didn’t know anything about them.
As a general overview of the module I quite enjoyed it and i found it very helpful and informative at the same time.

Mindfulness
This was another very beneficial module. It was amazing to see how mindfulness can have such a huge effect on how we feel. We learnt about exercises that could help us deal with stress, anxiety, depression, nerves etc. Some exercises we practices includes body scan, mediation, 7/11 and many more. I found some of them very helpful but sometimes I couldn’t see the point of doing some exercises but they resulted very useful in the end.. This just proves that you have to be in the correct mind state to see results. I think that going into fifth year and sixth year which I hear is very stressful, this module will help me a lot. I completed a project about the effects of mindfulness and about its origin.
