TY Musical (Legally Blonde)
One of the most important activities in TY is the musical. The aim of it is to produce a Musical where 91 students are involved. We had a month, and it was difficult, exhausting and it required a lot of hard work, but in the end it was worth it.
At the beginning of November, Aisling, (our choreographer that has been working in TY Musical for more than 10 years) came to school and taught us some dances so Ms Olahan and her could have an idea of the level that they were going to work with. We had to sing as well and do a little bit of acting. After two weeks they decided which musical we were going to produce send the winner was Legally Blonde. I remembered everyone’s faces, some of them were disappointed, other ones happy. I had never heard of that Musical before but as a first impression I would have prefered Mamma Mia.
The next couple of weeks we had auditions but we didn’t get to choose which role we wanted to be, they were given to us. Afterwards, Ms Olahan chose a few people to do a last audition. I had got a callback and I was so excited about it but at the same time pretty nervous because singing and acting weren’t my strong points.
At the end of December they gave us our parts and the fact that I got one made me put all my energies into the Musical. We started learning the dances and without any doubt that was my favourite part. It was a huge challenge too and because we learned 8 dances in less than a month. Not everyone could dance but I think it worked out well.
The nerves came after Christmas when we started to realize that our performances were getting closer. The last weeks were so hard everyone put loads of effort into it and in my opinion the musical was very successful.
Last week was amazing you could see all our work for the past month and I couldn’t be happier about it. Time flew by and now the only thing I would like to do is go back in time and do it ten times more!
I think everyone learnt from the Musical, it was a different experience that gave us a taste of the acting world, but as well you get to be close with people and make new friends.
At the beginning of January I just saw a bunch of kids singing and dancing trying to do both of those things right. After the last night of the Musical I saw 90 students involved in a successful show.
I wish the Musical wasn’t over but we still ave other great activities coming up, and without hesitation this has been the best thing we’ve done in TY so far. I couldn’t have enjoyed it more.
