O’Reillys Auction Room/ 3rd week of work experience
From the 9th to the 13th of April, I did my last week of work experience. I was working in St Francis street from 9:30 to 5. I quite enjoyed it and it was my favourite one out of all of them. I was working specially in the photography department and I had to say I was very lucky because my boss was so friendly and she showed me around and helped me with everything.
The first two days I was classifying the different jewels and trying to learn the different characteristics of them. I also had to photoshop the photos that were taken and I learned loads of useful things in the computer. We had a lunch break everyday for an hour which was nice because it helped me to be more concentrated when I had to be working.
The third day I helped organising the catalogues that were given to the different clients making sure the definition matched the photos. It was hard work because there were 600 pieces of jewellery and silver but at the same time I learned a lot from it.
The fourth day i moved department into administration, my job was to send the different catalogues to the clients so I spent my day writing addresses in envelopes, stamping them and putting a catalogue in every single one of them. It was the best job but someone had to do it.
During my last day my job was to answer the phone, I was a bit scared because it was something I had never done before but it was actually not that bad. It gave me a taste of a different kind of job that I didn’t think it was for e and I ended up loving it.
I felt very welcome during my placement in O’Reillys, everyone was so charming and welcoming. They gave a little present before I left and they invited me to the next auction te 25th of April, I can’t wait!

Worldbox/ 2nd week of work experience
For my second week of work experience I was working in worldbox. World box it’s a company that sends boxes all over the world. Me and Sally just had the chance to work there for a couple of days cos the weather got very bad and companies and schools were closed for five days. Even though we couldn’t be there for the whole week it was such a good experience and everyone was so welcoming.
We were working in the company’s social media. We controlled their Facebook and Twitter and we had to ask sure there was a post for every day during two months. It was something different to what I’m used to do but I found it beneficial and it helped me to develop new skills.
I enjoyed so much working with the staff of worldBox and would love to work for them in the future.

Community service/ charity shop
From the 4th to the 8th of December I had my first work experience. The first week I did community service in a charity shop in Dublin, Irish cancer society. It was a small shop close to st Stephens park. I chose a very busy week to work there, because Christmas was close everyone was buying presents.
The first day there I met another student that was doing her placement there as well and we got along so well. We were working from 10 to 4 everyday but they gave us an hour for lunch around 1 so it wasn’t that bad. As a general opinion working there wasn’t my favourite thing but it was a charity shop so I didn’t expect to be doing amazing things there.
My favourite thing above all was working on the til but sometimes you have to argue with some customers that were trying to steal some things and that part wasn’t nice at all. Margaret, the shop‘s manager was really friendly and me and the other student enjoyed talking to her.
As we were volunteers just for one week we were doing the jobs that no one wanted to do, I remembered that the worst one was to put labels in more than 300 pieces of jewellery. It took us more than 2 hours, I still don’t know what I learned about that! Some skills that I developed during that week were working with people, I mean, I was working in a shop so you have to be nice with the customers because you want them to buy stuff, but also you are working with other people there so you develop your team work.
If people ask me again if I will work in a charity shop ever again as a volunteer, I won’t do it for a whole week but maybe for a couple of hours a week. I think it’s a nice thing to do and it was the best thing I could have done for my community service week.
